Production & Industrial Engineering:

A branch of engineering which deals with the study to develop, improve, implement and evaluate the integrated systems of people, money, knowledge, information, equipment, energy and material is called process and industrial engineering. Also referred to as OPERATIONS this field caters to the needs of industries and help them in designing their processes within the organization.

Such engineers are also called process or manufacturing engineers and they work towards Choosing machinery and equipments, industrial layout, organization of assembly line, quality control, distribution and inventory control .

A connection between process and managements they work towards ensuring complete utilization of methods and schemes being designed, by people and check if each part of the organization is wholly involved in the processes.

They also develop management control systems to assist in financial planning, cost analysis, production planning and control systems for the physical distribution of goods and services. Many industrial engineers move into management positions because the work is closely related.

Job Prospects:

Industrial and production engineers are absorbed in several organizations which includes manufacturing firms, banks, hospitals, finance, agriculture, public utilities, wholesale and retail trade, transportation, construction and government.

They are required by both public and private sectors require industrial and production engineers for the smooth functioning of their Instrumental Manufacturing Industries and Industrial automation units. Those who have higher degrees and adequate managerial expertise can get top positions in the industrial/management field with attractive remuneration and incentives.

They work as plant engineers, manufacturing engineers, quality engineers, process engineers and industrial managers in different industries, the recruitment in government sector is done through UPSC exam and psu's conduct their own tests and selection procedures to appoint production engineers. Opportunities in armed forces and railways open more options in this field.
