miller indices are a set of integer (h,k,l)which are used to describe a given plane in a crystal.the miller indices of a face of a crystal are inversely proportional to the intercepts of that face on the various axes.the procedure for determining the miller indices for a plane is as follows:  1.prepare a three -coloumn table with the unit cell axes at the top of the coloumns.  2.enter in each colomn the intercept (expressed as a multiple of a,b or c)of the plane with these axes. 3.invert all numbers 4.clear frections to obtain h,k and l  for example calculate the miller indices of crystal plane which cut through the crstal axes at 2a,3b,c so a=2,b=3,c=1 intercepts  ,a=1/2 b=1/2 and c=1 as reciprocals, and a=3 b=2 c=6 as clear frections hence miller indices are (326)  ,try yourself if crstal axes is (a,b,c) answer is (111).
