Colligative properties of dilute soln (behave as ideal soln) , are properties which depend upon no. of particles of solute in a soln . There are 4 colligative properties 1. Relative lowering of vapour pressure 2,Elevation of boiling point 3. depression of freezing point 4.Osmotic pressure They find their origin from a foreign word Colligare which means to bind together i.e if value of 1 colligative property is known ,other 3 colligative properties can be calculated using mathematical relations. While dealing with C.properties two assumptions are made 1. Solute is nonvolatile 2.solute does not dissolve in solid solvent i.e only solvent freezes solute does not.
