Dude, u cud have asked me on orkut!!! Coming to your question, modulus is actually the "distance of a number from the origin"... ie The magnitude of a number... Take a positive real number, 5, its distance from origin is 5 units, so |5|=5 Now a negative real number, -5... its distance from origin is also 5 units, so |-5|=5 So basically for a real number, just strip off the sign! U can define it as: |x| = x, if x≥0 = -x, if x<0 For a complex number, say 3+4i, use pyth theorem to find the distance from the origin. it is 5 units, so |3+4i|=5
