the answer in option (a) ...is independent of the initial velocities .................... for any particle under gravity....the distance travelled by it in last 1 sec .is given by.... 1/2.* g *. t^2...........= g/2 = 4.9 metres we can use such an eq. bcaz ........at every instant. of the bodies motion the parametres such as velocity ,time.,displacent......are same compared to its corresponding downward motion........ that is why the distance travelled by it in the last second of its upward motion..........is same as the distance travelled by it in the first second of its return journey.i mean after the vel . becomes zero at max ht.
