CCl4 cannot reacts with water because it does not contain vacant orbital for attact of nucleophile water but SiCl4 easily reacts with water because it has vacant d-orbital and form Si(OH)4 which finally form SiO2(silica).remember CCl4 reacts with water at high temperature because at high temerature some higher orbital are used to form COCl2 posgene poisonous gas.NF3 also cannot undergo hydrolysis due to absence of vacant orbital.PF3 and PF5 also cannot undergo hydrolysis. | |||||||||||||
