Lowering of V.P is the cause of dep in F.P ,F.P is the temp at which V.P of liquid solvent =V.P of solid solvent there is equilibrium bet liquid solvent & solid solvent. When solute is added vap p is lowered, equilibrim is disturbed, at theF.P, more of solvent molecules pass frm solid phase to liq phase i.e solvent starts melting when solute is added. ,TO PREVENT ITS MELTING TEMP SHUD BE LOWERED .Diagramatically freezing occurs when solid solvent curve meets liquid solvent curve(diag is bet V.P & temp refer frm sm book or see ncert). Here itshud be clear that only solvent freezes & solute dissolves in liq solvent not in solid solvent. Thus on addition of solute curve for liq soln is obtained lower to pure liq solvent but, for solid solvent it is same for soln & pure solvent thus when solid solvent curve meets liq soln curve temp is lower than pure solvent there by depressing F.P
