5 = 3 x 1 + 2 x 1

17 = 3 x 5 + 2 x 1

61 = 3 x 17 + 2 x 5

217 = 3 x 61 + 2 x 17

so general term is given by : t_n = 3t_n-1 + 2t_n-2
