Resonance is an hypothetical concept used to explain experimental facts which could not be explained using the single structured proposed for e.g if we write st of benzene there are 3 double bonds & 3 single bonds but when we experimentlly determine the bond length all where found to be equal that is intermdiate bet the two so we draw the resonanse structures &hybrid of these structures represents our real molecule of compound .There is certain criteria for drawing resonating structures 1.=bond in cojugation with = bond 2. =bond in cojugation with lone pair 3.= bond in conjugation with positive or negative charge.Resonance explains stability of a conpound in comparision to structure proposed mesured in terms of resonance energy Thre are rules of resonance which helps to draw resonating structures which contribute to resonance hybrid ruling out unnecessary structures rules can be studied frm any book of chemistry | |||||||||||||
