hi in a cell, anode is the place where oxidation takes place i.e the loss of electrons.here the metal is changed into its ion. cathode is the place where reduction takes place i.e the addition of electrons.genrally some gas is liberated here or metal is formed. in electrolysis it is the reverse. hope this helps !!!!!!!!!!!!!
