Electrochemical cell generates current i.e CHEMICAL ENERGY  ELECTRICAL ENERGY .  Electrolytic cell is used for electrolysis ,compound is decomposed by passing electricity through it i.e  ELECTRICAL ENERGY  CHEMICAL ENERGY . For both the processes OXIDATION occurs at ANODE  &REDUCTION occurs at CATHODE. Anode of electrochemical cell has negative polarity as electrons are liberated on it whereas cathode has positive polarity bec electrons are accepted by it  thus ANODE is NEGATIVE & CATHODE is POSITIVE.In an Electrolytic cell the electrode which is connected to anode of electrochemical behaves as cathode bec electrons are supplied to that electrode there by causing reduction there  & the one which is connected to cathode of electrochemical cell behaves as anode thus making oxidation possiblei.e in Electrolytic cell ANODE is POSITIVE  &CATHODE is NEGATIVE
