hi nive during adsorption, the molecules get attracted to the surface of the adsorbate thus it is exothermic.deltaH=-ve. now as the molecules r confined to one place i.e on the adsorbate their entropy decreases which means delta S=-ve.but deltaH is more -ve than T(deltaS).thus in the eqn: delG = delH - TdelS delG=-ve. thus adsorption is spontaneous. hope this helps rate if its useful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
