After looking at the title of the article some of you might be thinking like,” what a kind of person is this, telling us that there are things to be learnt from such a kind of paper, which hasn’t been given in IIT-JEE’s history.” But let me tell you something that the paper has some things that are to be looked at very carefully. After reading many articles and opinions in the past on week in the internet regarding this year’s IIT-JEE, I have found many of the IIT-JEE aspirants have been saying that the paper was lengthy, maths of PhD level, the ORS has misprints and no instructions have been given regarding it and many other things. I do agree that in some centers the corrections haven’t been announced. But I do feel that there are certain key points that are to be learnt. Key points in IIT-JEE 2010: 1. As soon as the paper was given many of us started answering the question paper right from the first question without looking at the whole paper thoroughly, we could not identify the easy questions and the easy part of the paper i.e., chemistry(i mean one could roughly score 40 marks just by reading NCERT books) 2. By analyzing paper-1, I think answering 40-50 questions can be done in 3 hours. 3. Paper-2 was comparatively easier than the first paper as it had less number of questions and the calculation part was reduced. With this we could increase our score even if we have not performed well in the first paper.. 4. Equal importance has to be given to all the three subjects while preparing for IIT-JEE because if we had given equal importance we could easily answer 15-20 questions in paper-1 chemistry. 5. Confusion was created whether the answers are to be marked according to the subject heading or question number order. I think it was common sense that we should answer according to the question number order but I totally don’t agree myself with this point as some of friends said that the IIT’s are testing whether we are observing the heading or blindly answering the paper. Things that are to be kept in mind for the next exams: 1. Scan the paper as soon as it is given for at least 5-10 minutes and identify the easy questions. If possible make a small mark at the question. 2. After scanning the paper, do chemistry part in the next 40-45 minutes as it is the easy, less time taking and scoring part in most of the exams. 3. In the remaining time do the subject which you feel comfortable but don’t do it for the whole time as you have to pass the cutoff mark in all the subjects. 4. Try to solve the problems with speed and accuracy as you need to score better to get a good rank, you can get the speed by practicing more number of questions. 5. Try to carry a water bottle with glucose added to it or carry an energy drink to the exam hall, so that you don’t feel tired. Believe me in my exam centre, I could rarely see someone carrying a water bottle and because of that many of them couldn’t answer the question paper in the last 45 minutes as they felt tired of doing a lengthy paper. 6. Relax yourself completely before answering the paper. Practice relaxing yourself from at least 1 week before the exam by doing meditation. It’s really important. I will tell you an incident which happened to my friend shivam during this year’s JEE, he could answer the first paper well and suddenly he couldn’t answer a single question in the second paper because he felt so nervous about the paper, believe me he was even admitted in the hospital for a day due to nervous breakdown. 7. Don’t loose your heart if you couldn’t perform well in the first paper. 8. Take light food like biscuits, a glass of milk, fruits etc., on the exam day. 9. Try to settle down in the seat allotted to you at least half an hour before the exam and try to motivate yourself by saying,” this is the defining day of my life and I am going to give my best.” 10. One most important thing is don’t look sideways and keep on checking whether others are writing or not. As the AIEEE exam is going to be held in a week do not try to read till the last day, as you might have covered the syllabus for IIT-JEE which is included in AIEEE try to make a list of chapters which are additional and cover it in the next 3 days and practice tests in the remaining 3 days. O n Saturday read all the formulae as some of the questions in AIEEE are straight forward with a simple formula and it is also useful to recollect the formulae which you might have learnt many days ago. All the best for AIEEE and other exams. Comments are invited.
