I had the same problem when i started my preparation...
when i saw the solution ...i laughed at myself...
such questions just require making the force body diagrams and balance forces...that just solves the problem...
FBD of man include mg downwards, T upwards ,N upwards..
FBD of lift include Mg downwards, T upwards ,N downwards.
just balance forces and get the answer (a)....
