The reason is Lobry de Bruyn -Van Ekenstein rearrangement it is reversible isomerisation reaction i.e in presence of dil NaOH (present in tollens or fehlings reagent) fructose (evenD -glucose,D- mannose)undergo reversible isomerization reaction & is converted to a mixture of D- glucose ,D -mannose& D -fructose in this mix glucose & mannose both have aldehydic group so it can respond to fehling's test | |||||||||||||
