i proceeded in this way

(v^2) when it touches the wood = 2gh
after being stopped by the wood
v^2 = u^2 + 2as implies:
0 = 2gh + 2s(g-a)
a = g(1+h)
F = M*a
=Mg(1+h)

Average resistance = [Mg*(1+h)]/S
Who shoots at the midday sun though he be sure that he will not get the mark:yet as sure he is that he shall shoot higher than who aims but at a bush.
