in molecule of water there is 2 lone pair of electron on central oxygen atom so no possibility to form linear structure if there is only 2 sigama bond it form linear geometry for example BeCl2,HgCl2,O=C=O etc .water molecule is bent shape with angle 105 due to lone pair lone pair electron repulsion.as the repulsion increases bond angle decreases CH4 109,NH3 107,H2O 105 | |||||||||||||
