3) dipole - induced dipole..forces..
the meaning is clear from the name itself....see....it is a kind of force exerted by a polar molecule .......a polar molecule produces an electric field which distorts the electron cloud of a non polar molecule....or we can say the polar molecule can induce a dipole moment in a nearby non-polar molecule .....this will lead to attraction between the molecules...
it depends on :
1.polarizability i.e the ease with which the electron distribution in the non-polar molecule can be distorted
2.size and strength of the dipole
This type of force is responsible for the solubility of oxygen (a non-polar molecule) in water (polar).
