Dear Tanu, If you are aiming for an engineering exam, joining a Coaching institute is definitely a good idea. even if you are going for a correspondence course you will get a study material, that would cover all the syllabus, and you will have the access to loads of exercises to practice from. there would be tests included in b/w so that you can analyse yourself. many Coaching institutes either provide doubt clearance classes or atleast doubt clearance through email. there are All India Test Series provided that would give you an all India Ranking, Percentile etc...
I think this should have answered some of your doubts.
As a policy, any expert won't be able to comment on the type of quality of any particular Coaching Institute.
Like Gurucharan told about the study material according to his experience, if you wanna know which institute to choose from then your safest bet would be your friends and seniors who have taken the materials.
