When Metal reacts it forms cations i.e it loses electron ,as readily it loses it electrons more it is metallic or electropositive in nature now I.E is the energy reqd to take out most loosely bound electron of valence shell if this energy reqd is less it readily lose electrons .Across the period as effective nuclear charge is inc as we r filling electrons in same shell so it becomes difficult to take electron hence its I.E inc across the period. Nnonmetals accept e & form anions as tendency of acccepting e incs nonmetallic nature inc, Electron affinity is energy released when e is added to an isolated gas atom now as effective nuclear charge inc across the period this can easily accomodate an e easily thereby releasing more energy or having more E.A
