BENZENE UNDERGO SUBSTITUTION REACTION RATHER THEN ADDITION BECAUSE in subustitution it retains its aromaticity stable resonating sexate huckel system but if there is addition then it forms less stable 4pi electron system which is nonaromatic so shows electrophilic substitution reaction while in case of alkenes there is weak pi electron system so addition reaction ouccurs. | |||||||||||||
