KCN is predominantly ionic.... so it gives cyanide ion.......
R-X + KCN ---------> R-CN + KX
in this reaction the negative charge on the carbon atom attacks the R group so we get R-CN
AgCN is predominantly covalent
R-X + AgCN ----------> R-NC + AgX
in this reaction the lone pair on the nitrogen atom attacks the R group so we get R-NC........
in electrophilic reactions chlorine is ortho para directing because if you draw the resonance structures of chlorobenzene there will be negative charge only on the ortho and para position..... so they are vulnerable for electrophilic attack..................
