I have passed my 12th and wish to do IIT. And I have by now...Finished reading NCERT books and some of HCV. (Yes..I haven't done much of Chem and Math yes)

So now I that I have gotten a hold of the required Syllabus, planning..Etc. Is there some things I might need to know before I start off into the 'core' Objective, Problem solving studying for IIT-JEE ?

I have few questions of my own.

Firstly... I m looking for under 50-60 Rank.(for IIT Mumbai or Delhi)

1.) Is there no set pattern to the actual paper ?

2.) JEE TextBooks. Of course... I know this has been asked my times. But but not specifically for timelines and ranking.

I have 4 months now...with my Basic somewhat cleared off... I am aiming for TOP 5-10 Ranking. And Yes...I can do it.

So what Books do I need with such time remaining... Also... all the books have only certain things that are to be studied. Like... in TMH you should solve Problems and only counter-check some concepts against your NCERT etc(just an example).

How much of any book...Is valid for IIT-JEE Preparation? That is... What should I and Should I NOT study from any given book. Like...Only do excersises from a certain book..and not concepts etc or read only concepts from some book..and do only some selected problem cause their level is too high etc?

3.) What is the kinda... Idea to be kept in mind? Like... When we study for 12th. We learn the theory.. solve Problems and hope for the best.

In IIT-JEE you don't have Q & A...just objectives. So is there a need to know how the paper patterns are, criterias etc. I suppose I wud slowly get to know all those things as I start solving IIT practice papers etc. But still...Just asking.

4.) And Last... What is a YG File?

Please note... I am looking for a starting prep-up for IIT-JEE. You learn about things as you go... But I simply want to know...

Are there somethings to be kept in mind, or needed to know as you start off your core IIT-JEE preparation?

Thank You .. :)
