Most of the circuits can be solved using Kirchoff's Lawsbut even i hate that method and do same mistakes as you.
I use Kirchoff's Laws as last resort and try other methods like eliminations from options, etc. These methods vary from circuit to circuit but some circuits can be solved easily by Kirchoff.
