The formula S=ut+1/2 at^2 is only for constant acceleration . If the acceleration changes with time, this cannot be used.
Here the acceleration is not constant. the increase in velocity is 2m/s but (increase in velocity )/( time taken ) will give only the average acceleration. It does not mean that the acceleration was 2 m/s^2 from the time it started till the end.
