carbon in carbon monoxide is in sp hybridised form one sp orbital is used to form one sigma bond with oxygen atom and the other sp orbital is filled with the lone pair of electrons. carbon uses two p orbitals to form 2 pie bonds with oxygen atom therefore their is one sigma and two pie bonds in CO NOTE: hybrid orbitals can form only sigma bonds
