there are two theories about the origin of the universe - one is the Steady State Theory , that the universe always existed and will continue to do so. The Big Bang theory however states that at the beginning of time all dimensions and warps were contained in a point mass beyond which nothing existed not even vacuum , it's hard to imagine but anyway, the density of this point mass was near infinity. And as positive entropy would be acheived if it split up, it DID... vastly expanding at a very very very rapid rate spitting out constellations' origin gases which cooled down to form star masses and interstellar masses, and the galaxies and all heavenly bodies and it continues to expand.
When people ask that in this way there must be a centre of the universe , the answer is this: The universe's expansion can be understood by comparing it to the surface of an air balloon. When some air is blown into it, we can take a point on the surface in consideration. But when more air is blown into it and the balloon expands, the points spread around in a random fashion and it is not correct to say that there was a centre of the expanding mass. Each and every body is moving apart from others continuosly... though the debate is on if this will ever stop and maybe lead to a reverse of the big bang--the BIG CRUNCH.
