Answer is a). Let me just elaborate a little more. Now, as the density of water is twice that of the block, it will need only half the volume of the block dipped in it to balance it. To make it more clear, let us do a quick calculation:

Let its volume will be V. Now, its mass  = Vg(0.5)/ = Vg/2.

Now, in water, let the volume submerged be half its original volume, (say).
So, volume in water = V/2. Density of water = 1.

So, weight of liquid displaced = (V/2)g which clearly balances the weight of the block.

So, according to me, it should be A.

Will nip in at times to solve problems :)
