The direct nitration of aniline to give mono nitro product is impossible due to highly reactivity of both nitric acid and aniline............... Sometimes,in an uncontrolled reaction,a violent oxidation of aniline occurs to cause ignition of mixture.......however if nitration is controlled then we can get m- nitroaniline as main product along with some ortho and para products................. So, direct nitration is usually not carried out due to safety reasons............
