WHEN ALKYL HALIDE REACTS WITH SODIUM METAL IN THE PRESENCE OF PURE AND DRY ETHER FORMATION OF ALKanes takes place by the help of ionic or free radical mechanism for example 2RX +Na gives R-R BUT IF WE take two different alkyl halide formation of mixture of three alkanes takes place RR,RR*,R*R* but this is practically not successful because moleculermass of these alkanes are very near so sepration is very difficult .if we take one alkyl halide and one aryl halide this is practically possible reaction because sepration is easier known as wurtzfittig reaction.
