You will have to know the spectrochemical series first.......
According to the spectrochemical series,
I- < Br- < S2- < SCN- < Cl- < NO3- < N3- < F- < OH- < C2O42- < H2O < NCS- < CH3CN < Pyridine < NH3 < Ethylenediamine < bipy (2,2'-bipyridine) < 1,10-phenanthroline < NO2- < PPh3 < CN- < CO
So compounds in the spectrochemical series determine whether the ligands are weak or strong.........bipin bhaiya had cleared it earlier.....i remember.

From J.R.R. Tolkien's 'The Lord of the Rings':
All that is gold does not glitter
Not all who wander are lost
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by frost.
From ashes a fire shall be woken
From shadows a light shall spring
Renewed shall be blade that's broken
The crown less again shall be king. |
