AS FAR AS I KNOW THIS WILL FOLLOW AN sn2 mechanism if the alky groups are primary....and the mechanism will shift to Sn1 if on of the alkyl groups is tertiary...
considering ur first reaction i think will get tert butyl iodide and not the alcohol.
its beacuse the in the mechanism
carbocation is stabilised by inductive effect of methyl groups. i think the mechanism is given in ncert
