well here is my method--
tension in the sting=f=friction
a1=accn of M
a2=accn of m
eqns--
Mg-f=Ma1
therefore a1=g-f/M(going downwards)
f-mg=ma2
a2=f/m-g
a rel=a1+a2=f/m-f/M=2l/tsquare
therefore ans=mM/(M-m)*2l/tsquare
