They needn't necessarily be Irregular Eddy currents are created when a moving conductor experiences changes in the magnetic field generated by a stationary object, as well as when a stationary conductor encounters a varying magnetic field.(Wikipedia Definition). The interaction between electric & mag fiields and matter are extremely complex. Just looking at Maxwells equations shows that. Many Scientists Spend years learning how to use those equations. Most eddy current loops are irregular because the conductor materials are non-homogeneous. The Current Chooses the path of least resistance....Due to impurities the path of least resistence becomes irregular
In a proper homogeneous conductor the loops are regular!!
Hope this helps!!
