do learn shorcuts but first understand how and from where it comes the given derivation is for anchit's shortcut

for mixture of two gases U = U1 + U2 ( U1 and U2 are the internal enargies of the mixed gases )

( f/2) nRT = (f1/2)n1RT + (f2/2)n2RT

f = ( n1f1 +n2f2)/ n1 + n2
