.derivations of mirror n lens formulae r from geometry where no quantities r negative...so by saying obj distance is -u, u assume tat u will be a negative value so tat -u is positive.........if there werent sign conventions u will have many number of fr ormulae for each case...like one with + and with - for the other case...
