yup there is simple formula....
for any compound=AnBm n(total no of valence electrons in A)+m(total no valence electrons in B) = divide the above ans by 8 =the quoteint will be equal to the no of sigma bonds =the remainer/2 will be = no of lone pairs.... it can be applied to even 3 el;ement compounds and so on...
