Degree of freedom-
Independent motions possessed by a system or a body is known as degree of freedom.
- For mono-atomic, diatomic and tri-atomic gas, translation motion is given in 3 directions.
- For diatomic and tri-atomic gas, rotational motion is given in 2 and 4 directions respectively.
- Vibration motion is given as zero.
From kinetic interpretation we observe that kinetic energy per degree freedom=1/2RT
- IN THE INCREASING ORDER OF DEGREE OF FREEDOM, GAMMA DECREASES.
