Cyanide is formed in case of KCN and isocyanide in case of AgCN

This is because KCN is ionic while AgCN is dominantly covalent
So KCN-----------> K+ + CN-

while AgCN ---------------> Ag* + CN*
where Ag* and CN* are radicals

So as C is less electro-ve than N, there is -CN bonding in cyanides

but in CN*, only N has lone e-

So there is no other option but bonding through N
Thus isocyanides are formed
