Here is an algebraic approach:
r/p + s/q = 1
We know that r/p and s/q are both +ve so applying AM-GM, we get 1/2 >= root(rs/pq)
=> 1/4 >= rs/pq => pq >= 4rs
So least value of pq = 4rs
And hence least value of A = 1/2 pq = 2rs
