I think we can imagine it like this.....

Suppose a car is moving with a velocity v, and a heavier thing (say, truck) comes from opposite site, having greater momenta than car, and collides with it.

Now we started tracking the graph 1... ok??

As momentum of truck was more, the truck will dash and take the car alongwith, this decreases velocity of car to 0, still if truck is having enough momentum, so car will dash back alongwith it in  opposite direction where it came from, so velocity gets negetive, while displacement still continuing to increase.

Now see graph 2, car after collision is continuously dashed back by truck so its acceleration is increasing with dispacement...

**It is assumed that truck's engine is still up and running after collision(TATA 1012 LPT)**

Be Happy.........!!
