Hi,
You have raised a very fundamental question and I appreciate it! IIT JEE is all about fundamentals and clarity of concepts. Application of fundamentals is mastered by solving hundreds of relevant questions by pen on paper. If a person has been doing exceptionally well all through school and is easy with the fundamentals and problem solving, then coaching may not be required at all.

Where coaching makes a difference is by acquainting you with the latest trends of examinations, teaching you tricks for problem solving, poviding additional material for practice, keeping your pace of preparation up to the mark, and letting you be among and in touch with a hundred other aspirants who make you feel what the competition is going to be like.

For most students, a guided coaching/coaching material definitely helps. But the faculty of the coaching institute must be really really competent and sensitive enough to personally attend your problems whenever need be, and not like a shop of commercial activity.

SELF STUDY is the only way in either case!
Hope you've got your answer.

All the best. Revert to us for any further help.
