Degrees of freedom are ways in which a gas molecule can store its kinetic energy, they r rotational, translational and vibrational

Maxwell's equipartition law says that all gas molecules distribute their KE equaly in all degrees of freedom,

E.g: for a monoatomic gas , f=3 coz of translational in X, Y, and Z dirns.

for diatomic, f=5 coz it will have two rotationals also,

Vibrational will be neglected at this stage, since it is considered only at high temp, but it is given by 6n-4
