jack there's a fundamental flaw in ur question. as far as da fabric of space is concerned its expansion is due to da anti-gravity field of vacuum and it isnt engulfing any space 'outside'. acc. to hawking's no-boundary solution if curved space wid app. pf non-euclidean differential geometry doesnt have any punctures or asymptotes or singularies then it is finite but wid no boundaries. i hope tht explains it, nudge me if it doesnt. nehow as far as ur erroneous representation is concerned if an infinite space was expanding then as per a reconcilation of divergences any operation on infinity wud still keep it to infinty. so even though it isnt da case infinity plus 1 or nethin else wud still b infinity.
