in aryl halides there is both inductive and mesomeric effect .....overall the aryl halides are ortho para directing ..........inductive effect controls the reactivity where as the orientation is controlled by mesomeric or resonance effect............for more details u can refer the ncert text of class 12 its given as a solved example
