I'm from Kota, and here for defence.
First for some statistics correction. In the very first post, you mentioned that out of 6000 students, only 10% are selected from Bansal, which is 600. But the selection figure is 1600! Please state your statistics correctly.
Then, somewher in between, I read that if your parents can afford Kota and you have average talent, you can crack IITJEE. THis is the most hilarious thing I've ever read. I've known a guy who has been preparing for bansal's entrance exam for years. He's not quite that intellegent, and even though he has managed to get into bansal, he's not able to cope up with the workload, and has started slipping already. I tell you, he wont be able to make through. One place, you say that only 3% are selected. Another place, you say that if you manage to get into bansal, you'll get into IIT. And in both places, you'll curse the institutes! How fair is that? And will the selection % differ if there were no institutes? the IITs will still remain a dream for many students
Those who think that bansal gets good results only because they take the good students, I'll take my own example to prove them wrong. I entered bansal without any proper training. I had secured 90.93% in 10th maharashtra board, which although is quite good, is not yet good enough. I also didnt get a good batch initially. But the teaching was so absolutely awesome that I managed to get AIR 96 this year. And whats this rubbish that these coaching institutes teach only tricks and methods to solve problems and kick the conceptual part. Those who say this either dont get the concept themselves, or have never been to kota and experienced their teaching. On the contrary, they teach the concepts so well and thoroughly that the students can solve any type of problem.
As for the board exams part, Bansal never tells you to skip classes. THe timings never clash. Its the students who bunk. Infact, our sirs always warn us against this. As for the mockery of The Indian Education System, I think the fact that they are still able to get good results in XII, keeping in mind that the syllabi of JEE and XII are similar, it only shows that the coaching classes have done their job well.
THe institutes polish your basic skills, so you are able to study advanced stuff easily. IIT wants students with talent, and skill in engineering. If the institutes provide the foundation for this by strengthing the basics, whats wrong with that? The coaching institutes are created by market forces. Had the government created more and better institutes, this would not have happened.
And given the JEE result this year, I dont think its yet established that the institutes at kota are not good for the new JEE pattern.
