alkali metals dissolve in liquid ammonia to give deep blue solutiosn which are conducting in nature. the blue color is due to the ammoniated electron which absorbs energy from the visible region and imparts blue color to the solution. it is paramagnetic in nature.THE GENERAL EQN IS: M + (x+y)NH3 [M(NH3)x]+ + [E(NH3)y]-alkaline earth metals dissolve in liquid ammonia to give deep blue-black solutions. IS THIS WHAT U XPECTED IF S DO RATE ME!!!
