hi theres another method to do this.even after breaking off centre of mass continues to move with same velocity.so use
2mv=mv1+mv2 to calculate v2.it would be better to use it for the 2 different components of velocity.so for x-component
2m(60)=m(0)+mv which gives v=120
and for y
2m(0)=m(50)+mv which gives v=-50
thus the velocity of second part is 120i-50j or 130m/s.is the answer correct??
