Possibly your windows system files are corrupted. after the icons and start toolbar disappear, press ctrl + alt + del and see under the processes tab whether a process called "explorer" is running. If no, then click file -> new task and type in explorer and press enter. If the problem repeats, or if the explorer process is already running, insert ur windows cd and boot from it, and select the repair command..
