Hi man4ish the soln. according to me is as follows according to rule pH = -log[H+] = -log[10-8] = 8 (common mistake) but pH of an acid can't be 8 so we have to take contribution of H+ from water therefore total H+ ion in solution =H+ (from HCl) + H+ (from H2O) = 10-8 + 10-7 = 1.1 * 10-7 Moles/litre therefore pH = -log[1.1 * 10-7] = 7 - log1.1 = 7 - 0.0414 = 6.9586 |
